Abida Parveen

Begum Abida Parveen, better known as Abida Parveen is a Pakistani singer and was born in 1954 in Larkana, which is in Sindh Province. Her basic music training began under Ustad Ghulam Haider who was her father too. After this training from her father she started her training under Ustad Salamat Ali Khan.

She started her career singing for radio in Pakistan. She came into limelight after her first song called” Tuhinje zulfan jay band kamand widha” which was a massive hit. This song was earlier sung by many singers, but the classical touch which Abida provided it made this song immortal. She is also very close to the verses of Sufi Saint Shah Abdul Latif, which can be accounted for the inherited Sufism in her voice and songs. Some of her major hits are listed below: -

Abida Parveen is also known as Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Queen of Sufi Music. She had also many albums to her name like Ap Ki Abida, Baba Bulle Shah, Arifana Kalam, Har Tarannum, Heer, Ishq Mastana, Sarhadein and many more. She had sung in many languages such as Urdu, Punjabi, Persian, Sindhi and Seraiki. She had also won President of Pakistan’s Award in 1982 for Pride of Performance.
