Junoon
Junoon is one of the most famous Pakistani Rock bands, which is based in two of the most important Pakistani cities, Lahore and Karachi. Junoon was initiated in 1990 by Salman Ahmad who was a doctor by profession. Apart from Salman Ahmad, other members of Junoon included Ali Azmat, Brian O’ Connell, Sheryar Ahmad, John Alec, Nusrat Hussain and Malcolm Goveas. Salman Ahmad is the lead guitarist and songwriter whereas Ali Azmat is the lead vocalist. Sheryar Ahmad is the band manager and John Alec is the producer and the bassist. Brian O’Connell is a bassist, Nusrat Hussain and Malcolm Goveas manage keyboards and drums respectively.
Junoon created a history in Pakistani Music by launching their first album “Junoon”. After the release of “Inquilaab”, it seemed that the whole Pakistan was chanting songs of Junoon. The best thing about their songs was the use of Sufism. A list of their all time hits is given below: -
* Sayonne
* Yar Bina Mera Dil
* Yeh Mazaa Zindagi Ka
* Kyu Pareshan Hai Tu
* Nind Ati Nahi Sari Sari Rat
* Kis Soch Me Doobi Zindagi
* Hai Jazba Junoon To Himmat Na Har
* Yeh Neeli Neeli Aankhon Ko Mujh Say Chhupa Lo
* Zamane Ke Andaz Badle Gaye
* Chalay They Sath
* Door Jo Aj Nahi
* Chori Chori Aaja Dheeray Dheeray Aaja
* Dil Nahi lag Raha
When “Sayonne” was released in the album “Azaadi” in the year 1997, the whole of South Asia was taken by a storm. This song made them an overnight hit and it also registered them as one of the best singers in Sufi music. They had performed in the Millennium concert in Paris in the year 1999 along with the likes of ray Charles, Lionel Ritchie and many more.
