Shubha Mudgal is a famous Indian versatile singer who has mastered Hindustani Classical Music, Dadra, Thumri, Khayal and also the latest pop genre. She was born in 1959 in Allahabad to Skand and Jaya Gupta. Professionally her parents were teachers, but they had great interest in classical music as well as Kathak. Like her sister she started learning Kathak at a very small age. After some years she started learning classical music from Pandit Rama Shreya Jha in Allahabad. She went to Delhi for higher studies and here she started her training under Pandit Vinaya Chandra Mudgalaya. She worked hard under him so that she can groom herself in classical singing.

She started as a classical singer in the early eighties and had a good fan following. In the next decade, she started embracing different forms of music such as pop, Thumri etc. some of her songs worth mentioning are : -

Shubha had also sung for many Bollywood movies. She had been awarded a national film award in 1996 and Padma Shri in 2000. In 1998 she also won a gold plaque award at the 34th Chicago International film Festival for special achievements in music.
